We woke up around 7:30 and headed to the dining hall at 8:00
for an English breakfast of eggs, bacon, and hash browns. After a quick walk
to the bus station, we boarded the bus for a ten-mile ride. The bus dropped us
off at the gates of Blenheim Palace. The mansion was a gift for the first Duke
of Marlborough by the monarchy, but the monarchy was very reluctant to build
the mansion because of costs. It took until the early 1700’s for the King to
make good on his promise, though. We first walked to the monument commemorating
the first Duke, which stands in front of the palace. We then went into the
house and walked through the downstairs rooms. The left half of the house is
where the 11th Duke of Marlborough lives and so we could not see that area of the palace,
but the rest of the bottom floor is open. The first three rooms are filled with
exhibits about Winston Churchill who was born there. After that, the rooms were
left as they were when the house was given to the National Trust. We then ate lunch in the courtyard and headed to
the Game Fair. The Game Fair took place in the back fields of Blenheim and
attracted thousands of people. There were hundreds of shops set up that sold
hunting and fishing gear. We shot skeet, and Alex shot the best with nine out
of ten. We headed back to the bus station and arrived back at the college
before dinner. After a long day we hit the sack around 10 to be ready for
Saturday.
