Day 12, Thursday, July 17 - More class time in Oxford

Today we spent the morning in the classroom working on our journals and discussing Darwin and the people, places and ideas that influenced his thoughts on evolution.   After a short break, we came back to the classroom to read newspapers.  Following lunch we met at the front gate for an in-depth tour of Brasenose College. In the chapel we saw a closet that leads out to Radcliff Camera Courtyard near a lamp post. CS Lewis is rumored to have used this exit to get out of chapel and that this provided inspiration in his writing The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.  Another interesting part of the tour was going up through the library into the archives room. From this room we went through a hidden door and up further above the Porter's Lodge to a depository where the college valuables were once kept.

We went on a short hike to Christ Church Park which went around a meadow and ran along a canal. On the far side of the loop I could see all of the historic city across the field.  I went on a quick run around the trail afterwards preparing for my cross country season with Coach Hale. I then got ready for our seated dinner in the dinning hall followed by an evening reading assignment.
